Many people feel that the lack of a more intuitive editing interface for newbies to wikis should be remedied somehow. Some advocate a "what you see is what you wiki" (wysiwyw) approach to the matter. In 2004, Ward Cunningham listed the lack of wysiwyg editing for wikis as the biggest remaining barrier to entry for wiki use.
Two groups are presenting on WYSIWYW implementations and efforts at Wikimania; and there will be presentations of efforts to integrate such editors into Socialtext and MediaWiki wikis.
