A proposal
My feeling is that by using collapsible data structures, wikipedia could be a cosmopedia which is nevertheless just as readable in the future as it is today - if not more so. By default, only the sorts of things that would conventionally be found in an encyclopedia would be shown to a user who visits an article. However, the user would be able to unfold areas of interest to display additional information which would until now only be found in special interest sources (including, but not limited to, special interest wikis).
This could be done in a number of ways, and I won't go into more specific implementation suggestions here.
I would add that I would like to see a discussion between Lodewijk Gelauff and Panagiota Alevizou who will be giving the talk Encyclopedia or cosmopedia? at the same time as LG1 will be happening.
