Lawrence Lessig is a professor of law at Stanford University and founder of its Center for Internet and Society. He is also founder of the Creative Commons, and board member of the Free Software Foundation and the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Lessig is also on the board of directors of the Software Freedom Law Center, launched in February 2005. He is the author of the book Free Culture and is associated with the movement of the same name. He is best known as a proponent of reduced legal restrictions on copyright, trademark and radio frequency spectrum, particularly in technology applications. In 2002, Lessig was awarded the FSF Award for the Advancement of Free Software from the Free Software Foundation. In 2006, Lessig was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
