This photo illustrates the growth pattern of the SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cell line. These cancer cells form mounds of undifferentiated cells undergoing mitosis, while extending differentiated neurons radially from the mound. The differentiated neurons have extended neurites around them and form connections with other neurons. This photo has implications to how stem cell neurons might differentiate if implanted into a damaged brain.
